INTENSIVE TRAINING COURSE AND DOCUMENTARY PRODUCTION FACTORY


This truly intensive workshop is for people prepared to eat, sleep and breathe documentary for a solid two-week period, absorbing the production process whilst making your own documentary film. You’ll gain theoretical and technical knowledge, and engage in debate with fellow doc lovers during this unique training course. Working in small groups with individual tuition, you'll also get extensive practical experience. You'll learn to work independently, as well as in a small crew, both invaluable skills for contemporary documentary filmmaking.

DOCLAB is taught by award-winning industry professionals that give you the skills you need to pursue your career in documentary filmmaking. You will gain essential technical skills on industry standard HDV cameras, sound equipment and digital editing on
Final Cut Pro. Through making your own documentary under the expert guidance of our tutors,  you will gain knowledge of and insight into the documentary production process to get the edge in this highly competitive industry.

The course is a highly interactive combination of formal information delivery (tutor lecture plus handouts) and practical group and individual exercises, where each participant gets to create, shoot, edit and direct their own film. Participants are given tasks to complete under staff supervision and in their own time, culminating with the production of a short documentary film.
Thus ensuring a solid foundation on which to build your documentary career.

Screenings support the seminars and practical classes inspiring discussion and creativity.

DAYS 1 TO 4:
Focusing on the technical operation of HDV cameras, sound equipment and digital editing. These first few days will also be used to analyse the different ideas for your final project.  At the end of day 4, your choice of subject will be defined.
Each day ends with an evening screening and discussion. These first few days are deeply intensive and very long, often ending at 8pm.

DAYS 5 TO 8:
Looking at Story Structure, Interviewing Techniques, Research, Production Management for Factual and Health and Safety and relating them to your particular project.

DAYS 9 TO 11:

Production - the actual shooting of your project!


DAYS 12 TO 14:

Postproduction - this is when you will edit the picture and sound of your film.

DAY 15:

Screening. A public show of your hard work at our headquarters.
