Utah
15th - 25th January 2009
Annual festival celebrating the best of independent film worldwide. The festival has a number of categories, both competitive and non-competitive. Premieres are an invitation-only category of galas and special events featuring films from established directors and production companies. For documentary there's the main documentary competition for films made in the US receiving their world premiere, offering both jury and audience awards.
Submission Guidelines
The World Documentary Competition is open to any film made outside of the U.S. The film must be a U.S. premiere and priority is given to world premieres.
For the non-competition section, films are allowed to have screened at two other film festivals. Midnight and Frontier sections push the edgier side of cinema, while the Shorts category screens either before a feature or in one of 5 shorts programmes. The Sundance Online Film Festival showcases the same short films as its namesake event, as well as exclusive Behind the Scenes filmmaker interviews and the special Frontier section. Short Films submitted for the festival are automatically considered for SOFF, as well as Interactive and New Media projects created exclusively for the Internet.
Submission deadlines are staggered, increasing in price the later they are. Full details are provided in the Call for Entry FAQ section on the Sundance Institute website.
